The ocean during the last hundred years
Under the last few years our oceans been through a l lot of changes. Our ocean has been taking a lot of consequences of our over consumption and the plastic industry. We humans has changed out lifestyle and today we live in a whole different society them 100 years ago and the consequences have been affecting the ocean. Most people know that there is a lot of plastic in the oceans today but there have been more changes then just this. In this text I will be narrate down some of the changes our ocean has been through during the last years.
The change that are most obvious and most talked about is the problem with all the plastic that ends up in the ocean. Plastic can be found almost everywhere and is something we use almost daily. Too much of the plastic we use ends up in the ocean. Both big plastic products like plastic bags and toys but also microplastics end up in the ocean. Microplastic is plastic pieces that is smaller them 5 mm. The reasons why we have so much plastic in the ocean today is because we have such a big over consumption and that we don´t take care of plastic reduce like we are supposed to. (naturskyddsföreningen,u.å) There has been a increase with 10 percent since the 80s. And the scientist says there will be more plastic in the ocean then fish in the future. (WWf,2019) This wasn't a problem 100 years ago but today is one of the biggest threat for our planet.
Today the temperature on the earth is significantly warmer than a few hundred years ago. This is a consequent of the greenhouse gases we humans have let out into the atoms fear. The greenhouse gases come from our cars and industries for example. The increasing temperature has led to the polar caps and glaciers melting. When they melt they make the sea level higher. The scientist thinks this will continue to increase if we don´t make drastic changes in our lifestyle. (Havet.nu,2019) The greenhouse effect also makes the PH in the ocean sourer. This is because of when the carbon dioxide that we have in the air mixes with the water, there is a chemical reaction and it forms carbonic acid. This makes the PH sourer. The ocean contains chalk that neutralise the carbonic acid but since there is so much carbon dioxide in the ocean .The ocean can´t handle the situation. This will affect the marina ecosystems in the future. (havochvatten.se,2014)
All the changes have happened so fast that the ocean and the animals hasn't been able to adjust. The changes have affected our ecosystems and will keep on doing so. Scientists says there will be a decrease of the marina biomass with 15 percent under the next 100 years. (Havet.nu,2019)
Today's ocean has been affected by a lot of different factors and has been through a lot of changes. The ocean today doesn´t look like it did a hundred years ago and will always keep changing. A lot because of the way we humans lives and the climate changes we have caused.
