Several whales die

Italy, Philippines and Indonesia are some of the places where there have been more cases where whales have been stranded. Autopsies have been done and, in all cases, the whale´s stomachs have been filled with plastic. The whales have died of hunger and fluid deficiency due to the plastic in their stomachs.   

In Mabini, in the western Philippines March 19, 2019, a whale was found stranded. The whale was alive when it reached land, but it died shortly after, despite the peoples help. It was undernourished and had fluid deficiency. Autopsy was done and people couldn´t believe their eyes. The whale hade 40 kilos of plastic in its stomach. Rice bags, food bags, bags from banana plantation and regular plastic bags was just some of the things they found in the whales' stomach. The whale died because it couldn´t eat food, because the stomach was already full. (Wilson, 2019) (Sartori,2019)  

In Kapota, in Indonesia November 20, 2018, the inhabitants found a whale at the shore. The ten-meter-long whale hade over 1 000 different plastic objects in the stomach, corresponding 6 kilos of plastic. It was plastic cups, bags, flip flops and so on. The reason for death is unknown but it doesn´t change the fact that this is horrible. (Olsson, 2018) (tv4, 2018)

A young whale was found in Sicilien, Italy in May 20, 2018. The whale was dead, and the stomach was full of plastic, for instance plastic bags and other plastic objects. The reason for death is unknow, but the plastic is probably the reason. This is the fifth cetacean found stranded in just 5 months. In April a whale was stranded at the same location, with 22 kilos of plastic in its stomach. "There where hoses, garbage bags, fishing nets and a bag of laundry detergent where you still saw the barcode and the brand, said Luca Bittau, president of the organization SeaMe" (Åkesson,2018)
